Grey scale and color wheel.

1. Creating the grey scale and the color wheel didn't require much thought because it's second nature to me. I've made them several times before.

2.I enjoyed using the oil paints the most because it's a new media for me.

3. The greatest experience was using the oil paints. It was a great way to learn how to control the paint and seeing how easy or complex it can be to use as opposed to acrylics or water color.

4.The most important thing i learned from the video was that there is a such thing as historic or prehistoric paint or colors. The video seems to be pretty simple.

Art and Emotion.

1. Describe color and its effects on emotion.
- Warm colors are usually associated with the feeling of warmth. An artist in the color video named June discussed how every time she paints, she feels as if she is a child again

2. What is a theoretical aspect of color that most intrigued or fascinated you? why?
- One aspect that intrigued me was in the color video, how they discussed how a carmine red was made. It is said to be made from crushed beetles. This interests me because I had no idea that insects could be used as a source for pigment or paint.
- Another aspect that intrigued me was that back then when they didn't know how to store paints to, they used pigs bladders. However, they ended up not being suitable for wear and tear. This is when they invented the metal tubes that are used today.

3. In the color video, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color and it's effects on emotion?
- There wasn't really anything in the color video that made a big impact on me. However, I found it interesting that you have to keep the piece moving, in order to make it look fresh and "alive."

4. In the feelings video, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color and its effects on emotions?
- What made a huge impact in the feelings video was that Mark Rothko wanted to evoke an emotional response by using color alone. He made painting that would "ruin" appetites. He had done this because a  restaurant didn't except his work to be hung on the walls. He had hoped that by using red and maroons would make the people dining feel trapped in the room, with all doors and windows bricked up to do nothing but bang their heads up against the wall. I found this kind of interesting that something like that would make Rothko feel so upset and go to this extent to get his point across. I kind of enjoy his way of thinking though.

Video and article review.

1. Key concepts that I learned from the article was the use of equal luminance, and from the videos, I learned the different perspectives on aesthetics from multiple philosophers. I found many of their views to be very interesting.

2. I believe 18th centery philosopher Alexander Baumgartner's theory n aesthetics is most important because he explains that beauty is seen in a way of sensation, or taste of beauty in a logical and reasonable way. He talks about how art brings us from the dark to the light in a means of understanding and, many other philosophers didn't talk about how beauty can be seen in more than one way through our sense and, that's what i think sets him apart from many of the other philosophers.

 3. I thought Changeux and Ramachandran's views on aesthetics and art were pretty interesting, many of the views they talked about are similar to the way that i view art and aesthetics. I love how Changeux talked about how art is a way of non-communication of emotions, knowledge and experiences.

4. The video and article relate to the text in a way that they all talk about the different aspects, opinions and stories on art in specific time periods. As well as how the beauty of art can be seen as beautiful in many more ways that just a sense of pleasure and/or appeal.

 5. The videos and the articles were actually very good. It broadened my understanding of art ad allowed me to see it in a different way than i had prior to reading the article and watching the videos. It deepened my understanding by explaining more in depth the ideas of aesthetics and why art can be seen as either important or not depending on the person and their views.

First Post.

1. The process of setting up my Gmail and my blog was a fairly easy process. I already had a Gmail set up and the steps to starting the blog were simple to follow.

2. In this course I expect to enhance my knowledge of Contemporary Art. As well as getting to know some extra information about some of the artists we plan on discussing.

3.  Taking an online course is something new for me. However, I will not let that discourage me from being a good student and doing what I need to do in order to pass the course.
