Mask Making.

1. Explain why you chose these pieces.

1a. The "Typical old Mexican mask" almost looks as though it is a representation of "The happy/sad theater mask" Which is why I was really drawn to it. The top of the mask has a flat rim, the mask has a little wear and tear that shows value and texture. The mask appears to have a sad expression. Whoever created the mask made it in the way that the eyebrows, eyes, nose and mouth come to form the masks face.

1b. The "strange mask of natural materials" is so interesting and                         amazing to me! I love that it reminds me of the bunny from  Donnie Darko.  The character is so evil and mischievous looking. With orange around the rim of the eyes and it jagged white teeth. To me the mask shows texture with the media that was used to create it.

1c. "Another great mystery mask" is a great one as well. It's a black and red mask with red horns coming from the top of it. There are also red lines that I assume are meant to be wrinkles on the forehead, chin and around the mouth. The mask also has monstrous teeth coming from all angels and big bright red nose.

2. Explain how you used the elements and principles in your finished mask. I tried to use color as the main focus. I wanted my mask to stand out based on the colors i chose. I also tried to use a little bit of texture with the horns and ridges on the masks face.

3. Thoughts on creating the mask? I had trouble creating the mask because i had no idea what material to use or how to approach it. I had an idea but just didn't know how to execute it the way that i had wanted to. To be honest, I am not very happy with the outcome of my mask. The idea I had in my mind and in my sketches, definitely don't show in my final piece. However, the mask is still interesting and it was a fun but difficult project.
