Velazquez:
1. Why'd you choose this video?: I chose this video because I honestly don't know anything about Velazquez so I am curious about what the video will have to teach me about him.
2. Key concepts learned: I like the fact that he captures the moment, light, air and elements that eventually disappear because they are said to be timeless. I also learned that his friend, that was a king, guaranteed his livelihood and future as a painter. As well as the fact that he had to copy many other artist to eventually develop his own style that involved more depth than the ones he previously made.
3. Related to the text: Velazquez's art relates to the reading because his art has a sense of mannerism as well as genre painting.
4. Opinion on film?: The video was very good. I learned a lot of things about Velazquez that i of course, never knew before. Mainly about his life as a painter and surprisingly a lot about his personal life.
The drawings of Michelangelo:
1. Why'd you choose this video?: I chose this video because Michelangelo is one of my favorite artists! My favorite painting of his is "The creation of Adam" by the way. I chose this video to see if I could learn some things that I don't know about him.
2. Key concepts learned: I learned that he taught himself to sculpt. That probably shouldn't have came to such a surprise but it was an interesting fact. Unfortunately, the rest of the video had been things i had previously knew about him and his work. So I cant really say i learned much.
3. Opinion on the film?: I enjoyed the video because it talked about Michelangelo's passion for the human body and the male nude being a symbol of his spiritual and emotional state.
