Expressionism:
1. Why'd you choose this video? I chose this video because the whole concept of expressionism intrigues me. The whole idea of distorting images to provoke emotion, mood or ideas is wht i love most about art. I'm interested to see what this video is all about.
2. Key concepts learned: I have learned that most of Munch's works are related to one another and that he was never married and painting was his absolute obsession. He also wanted to help people express life through themselves as he did. I also learned that Franz Marc found man ugly but animals more clean and beautiful, Kirchner's work changed after his relationship ended, Beckmann's work shows anxiety and terror. I learned so much about every artist presented in this video, most of them i never had even heard of.
3. Related to the text: It relates to the text because Expressionism i described that feelings take over observation. Also that most of the time intense colors are used to emotion.
4.Opinion on film?: I enjoy how they went in depth about the works of Edvard Munch, as well of the explanation of the pieces; how they were so carefully analysed. It really helped me get to know him better as an artist. I also thought learning about cubism was cool too.
Dada and Surrealism:
1. Why'd you chose this video? I don't really have a specific reason for choosing this video. I kind of just chose it at random, And the term Dada kind of intrigued me so I just picked it.
2. Key concepts learned: The majority of the film were things that I had just learned. Nothing from the video had been things that i had known besides what I had previously read in the text.
3. Related to text: To me the video had went way more in depth than the text did. However, they relate because many of the artists from the video were also briefly discussed in the text.
4. Opinion on the film: The video was very interesting. They went very in depth about many artists and how the Dada movement had come about and those who had been involved. The video went in depth A LOT about all of the artists which i also enjoyed. Many of the works were pretty cool and would have been things that I would have never thought about. However, although I had learned about many of their works, it was great learning some of their person experiences too. It really adds more to what their pieces really meant and represented.
