Module 8 - Video review

More human than human:

1. Key concepts learned: The main thing that I learned in this video is when Ramachandran says that segals explain the shape of the piece "Venus of Willindorf." He says that it has something to do with the behavior of the chicks when they get stimulated by the red stripe on their mothers beak or as an experiment, the red stripe on the stick. Both the chicks and the creator of the piece were pre-programmed to exaggerate what matters most. Which during the time the piece was made was fertility and fatness because it was desirable at that time.

2. Related to text: The main way they are related is by describing the processes of how works are made and the meanings behind them,

3. Opinion on film: The video went more in depth about the Venus of Willindorf then i had previously gotten to know about the figure which i really enjoyed. As well as the fact that there are other figures that resemble its physique. Loved that.

Beyond the classical: Byzantine and Later Greek Art.

1. Why'd you choose this video?: I had taken an Art History course last semester and the Byzantine and Greek art part of the course just happened to be my favorite part so I chose this video to see if there were things that i could learn that i didn't learn in Art History.

2. Key concepts learned: What i learned from the video was that Byzantine gave us continuity in the history of art and how we wouldn't have made this much progress without it.

3. Related to text: Mainly the idea that Byzantine art had to do with naturalism and realism and in some ways, abstract.

4. Opinion on the film?: I thought that this was another great video. I loved seeing a video on the styles that I have enjoyed most. Especially when it enhances the information that I had learned in another course.
