By Kelli Damron
Titled: Voluptuosity, 2001
Media: Porcelain
1. This work makes an impression on me because I honestly am in awe to see that someone has made a figure of a very voluptuous man or woman with such confidence and stride! Usually you will see sculptures depicting a very fit form so this was very surprising and quite refreshing to see. 2. I feel a connection with this work because I am very voluptuous myself and for a long time I couldn't find the confidence to embrace who I am and to love myself and very recently I have come to terms with just that so to see a very full figured individual with such care free confidence just makes me very happy because now, I can relate to that. It's better to embrace who you are rather than to be ashamed. Probably my favorite piece.
3. I would love to know the story behind this. how it came about, what the though process was, etc.

Title: Proliferation, 2012
Media:Ceramic with paint
1. This work makes an impression on me because it is very interesting and very beautiful to look at. The way this piece is presented is so above anything i have seen others do in relation to the female body and it's functions.
2. I can relate to this piece because I am also a woman, with the same body parts and abilities as this sculpture shows.
3. I would love to know the exact meaning behind this piece. And as well, the thought process involved. Such as, why are the children displayed outside of the body beside her hips, why is he face expressed the way it is. Maybe sadness, relief, anguish? I'd love to know.

Title: Scream, 2006
Media: Ceramic
2. The only way i can truly say that i relate to this piece is by saying, we all have those days where we just wanna scream for whatever the case may be.
3. I'd love t know how long this took. How was the artist able to get such a detailed effect and what else was used to give the piece this specific color.

Title: Just beyond the clear view, 2011
Media: Fired stoneware, porcelain slip, sink, ink, and encasing
1. Just the visual presentation of this is very interesting to me. To me, this piece clearly represents being in the sky. Although it may not be a plane, or a bird, like elements in this piece represent but, its everything essentially combined. You have the pilot hat, representing the plane, the child representing the passenger and the wings to support the theory of being in the air, flying. To me that is very interesting.
2. Personally, this is not a piece that i can honestly say I relate to. Especially considering, I have never been in a plane and that I am extremely afraid of heights. However, I still enjoy this work.
3. I'd love to know if I am right about the pieces meaning based on its presentation.

Title: Tune the old cow died, 2015
Media: Gum on canvas
2. This piece relates to me only because from time to time, I chew gum. As well as playing with it as a child but not as a means of art work.
3. What made the artist choose gum? How was the gum able to stay the way it appears to be staying in the photo, as well as in person?

Title; Dawn, 2009
Media; Earthenware, glazes, cast glass, silk pillow
1. What I find most interesting about this piece is the different medias that were used to create the piece. They all go together so well and just the piece itself is very beautiful.
2. This piece can not really relate to me but i still like it a lot.
3. I would like to know why all the different medias were added to the piece, what the meaning of this piece is and is it meant to represent a specific time period?
POST CARD

Some of these artworks made me really laugh! I liked that you looked more into just the paintings on the walls. In the Gum artwork. I would love to know why the artist chose gum too! You have a lot of questions and thoughts about the artwork that I am interested in knowing about also. I liked looking at your choices from this project. A lot different than mine but still interesting!
ReplyDeleteThose were all great pieces and some of them were very funny! Sad I didnt get to see them when I went to the art gallery. It really shows how there is such a variety in the gallery.
